Welcome to the ListenDerry site. This is a holding page at the moment that we’re hoping to replace with a few introductory posts by the end of this week.
Slugger O’Toole has started a series of ‘Derry Essays‘ drawing out different views about the city, and we’d like this to migrate over to this site over the next few weeks.In the essays, we’re looking for a wide range of different perspectives on the City in the context of it’s appeal to become UK City of Culture 2013. Some of these essays can be about the bid itself – the things that our contributors would like to be in it, and the issues that they would like to raise around it, and the wider questions that this bid flushes out.
Alternatively, we’re looking for essays that will help to unlock the wider enigma that is Derry / Londonderry.
This site is about much more than that though. We’re hoping that contributors within the city will be able to pick this site up and take over the management of it. Slugger O’Toole has spent eight years building up a modus operandi that is intended to promote a civil and inclusive conversation about controversial issues in Northern Ireland. We’d like to help people within the city to adapt this model in order to help establish a hyperlocal site. We’re hoping to get the ball rolling on this in the next few days with a few contributions from around the city – please stay tuned!
