I’d almost forgotten what a bomb sounded like.
I live a few hundred yards down the road on the Strand and was, of course, woken by this morning’s blast which damaged the perimeter walls and adjacent businesses outside the police station, but thankfully, injured no-one.
It’s amazing how quickly your brain processes something like that, even when you’re fast asleep. There’s the sound, the concussion rattling the windows and then a few seconds later the realisation that “oh f*ck, that was a bomb”.
It’s also kind of depressing that a bomb going off within spitting distance of your home doesn’t shake you up a bit more. A few hours of uneasy sleep later and the traffic outside is ticking over as usual, the breakfast news doesn’t seem overly concerned and I’m left feeling an odd mixture of disappointment and ‘pissedoffedness’.
Pointless. Depressing.













I hear your frustrations Mark and share them as no doubt do the overwhelming majority of this city. I, like plenty of others, have found it tricky to get anywhere along the Strand Road today without being delayed for quite a while. When will this pointless crusade end? It’s only serving to damage the livelihoods of those in Derry and cause a huge inconvenience to those who can’t access their homes/businesses.
Seconded, Eibhlin. It’s sad that even with all the optimism that’s been spreading through Derry, especially during these last few weeks, some things never seem to change…
