About
ListenDerry has been set up with the intention of creating a local pluralistic blog about – and for – Derry-Londonderry.
The intended subject matter will include the politics and culture of the city, but the future direction of the site is firmly in the hands of anyone who is prepared to step up and take the project forward.
The site has been established by the team behind the Slugger O’Toole weblog. Slugger is kicking the site off, but it is hoped that sufficient interest can be found to pick the project up and run it entirely independently. It uses the comments and site management policy from that blog, and it is intended to reflect Slugger’s success in creating an inclusive pluralistic space (NB: and NOT a neutral one). Some of Slugger’s contributors are keen to provide any help, advice and mentoring that may be required by potential partners in taking the site forward.
The site has been launched against the backdrop of Derry-Londonderry’s UK The City of Culture 2013 bid. The site neither supports nor opposes the bid, but is seeking to take the opportunity to reflect the growing lively conversation that the bid is generating.
Above all, this is an attempt to create a ‘hyperlocal’ site in Derry-Londonderry – one that can take it’s place among a number of similar sites that are growing up elsewhere: Sites like the other ones that are being promoted by the Talk About Local project.
